Hi year 10,
Hope the rehearsals have been going well for those of you who missed the lesson today. Looking Forward to seeing wizard of oz next week!
In today's lesson we started, and didn't get very far, discussing what the main causes of war are. Different ideas included
1. Religion
2. Power and status
3. Money / resources (including oil etc)
4. Territory - gaining land
5. Revenge / retaliation
6. To achieve justice change political structures
7. Politics
8. To combat terrorism
This makes ne wonder what if any is a good reason to start war. Do you think there can ever be a justification to war. For example if we look at historical atrocities such as the Holocaust - I think with hindsight (which is obviously great!) we would have no concerns saying fighting in that war brought about a necessary change and resulted in the liberation of the concentration camps and removal of a dictator who potentially could have had changed the world we live in today.
Next lesson we will look at some different cases which elp explore this question more so have a think about your own ideas regarding this question. Also, thanks to all the posts - some
Excellent comments and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing what you all think. Have a lovely weekend andrew you wednesday.
Miss Dorn
